Once again, the Saskatoon Western Development Museum (at 2610 Lorne Avenue) will be opening its doors and welcoming visitors with FREE ADMISSION for the Heritage Festival of Saskatoon! The Saskatoon Norwegian Cultural Society will be there with our beautiful display and Norwegians that can answer any and all questions you may have about Norway.

HØSTTAKKEFEST
We are pleased to announce the return of Høsttakkefest (Autumn Thank you Party)! We have not hosted a Volunteer Appreciation since 2019 and we think it’s time to bring it back! The Heritage Festival of Saskatoon is back at the Western Development Museum with live entertainment, cultural dancers, over 30 exhibits and more. SNCS will be there with a display of Norwegian heritage items. Come by and have a chat with us about Norway or Norwegian culture and heritage. Saskatoon International Folkdance Club will also be there and dance Norwegian dances in Norwegian cultural outfits called bunads.

NORWEGIAN LANGUAGE CLASSES
Saskatoon Norwegian Cultural Society is pleased to offer Beginner and Intermediate Norwegian Language classes starting September 2024. This is a fun way to learn a language, meet new people and learn about Norwegian culture.
Language class registration: Both the Beginner and the Intermediate classes start on September 9, 2023. The Beginner class begins at 7:00 pm, while the Intermediate class begins at 6:30 pm at Evan Hardy Collegiate. The teacher for beginners is Amanda Lawrence, and the teacher for intermediate is Line Bell. Signs will direct the students to the correct classrooms on the night of registration. Students are welcome to park in the parking lot to the north side of Evan Hardy.

It is soon time to make lefse for Folkfest, and we need to make LOTS! At last year’s Folkfest we ran out before 7:00 p.m. every day so this year we will try to make twice as much. We hope you are able to come out and help. There are jobs for all ages and abilities. We’ve booked the kitchen and hall at
Redeemer Lutheran Church for Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th2024.
We need people to :
– cook and rice potatoes (experience needed)
– mix dough (experience needed)
– roll lefse (experience needed)
– flip lefse (no experience required)
– organize cooling table (no experience required)
– butter lefse (no experience required – sit down job)
– package lefse (no experience required – sit down job)
– help set up Thursday evening (no experience required)
– help clean up Saturday evening (no experienced required)

Our Norwegian Christmas Eve service will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church (323 Fourth Ave. South). There will be a Meatball Dinner before the service at 5:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall at Zion Lutheran Church.
Cost of the dinner is $10.00 per person or FREE for paid members and anyone who volunteered at Folkfest this past summer. Children 10 and under are also free. If you have not yet renewed your membership, you will have an opportunity to do so at the dinner.

BERRY BARN’S NORWEGIAN CHRISTMAS FEAST

FOLKFEST 2023
We are excited to announce there will be a Norwegian pavilion at Folkfest in 2023. Dates are August 17, 18, and 19th.
The Norwegian pavilion will share venue with Japan, Vietnam, Iran, Sri Lanka and Cameroon at the Merlish Belsher Place, 2010 College Drive, International Place. There will be lefse, krumkake, hot dogs, a bar, as well as knitting displays and Folk Dancers.
